Valley Ford dates back to the mid 1800s, when settlers, recognizing the richness of the land, began growing grain.  A gristmill soon followed, and Valley Ford became famous for its excellent flour.  Today the fields of grain have made way for organic farms and dairies, and the West Sonoma area has become well known for its organic produce and artisan cheeses.  Although Valley Ford is small, it serves the needs of the community and its visitors with a charming mix of a few small shops, cafes, a market, and a hotel.

Valley Ford is not much more than a wide spot in the road, but the surrounding countryside is dotted with comfortable homes and ranches, ranging from simple wood-clad farmhouses to extravagant contemporary properties.  Many of the homes in Valley Ford are on small acreage or larger ranchlands.

Valley Ford Homes for Sale

Although the unincorporated community of Valley Ford lies right alongside Highway 1, some might still say it’s a little bit off the beaten track. The village’s tiny “downtown” consists mainly of a pretty good sized market, a post office, and a few small eateries, which actually serve up some pretty tasty dishes we might add. In fact, we definitely recommend making a quick stop over at Rocker Oysterfeller’s, even if you’re just passing through. Or if you’re someone who plans on staying a little longer and also somebody who appreciates a quiet country setting, there’s hardly a better place to begin a Sonoma County home search than right here in beautiful Valley Ford, California.

Valley Ford Real Estate

Much like Villa Grande and Sonoma County’s other smaller communities, options can be limited when it comes to homes for sale in Valley Ford. But if you do see something listed on the market, chances are its a quiet little country home or cottage with plenty of charm and character, and even a price that won’t break the bank. And thanks to Valley Ford’s awesome location, the California coast line is also just a short drive away, not to mention plenty of shopping, dining, and other terrific amenities in nearby Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Petaluma, and all the other cities and towns that are positioned along Highway 101.
