With distinct regions that include the Sonoma Coast and several inland valleys, Sonoma County’s topography, as well as its climate, is diverse and offers something that is sure to please just about everyone. Wet, mild winters characterize the entire region; but the summertime brings variety. Northern Sonoma County, which includes Cloverdale and Healdsburg, tends to be warm and sunny; while the coastal towns of Bodega Bay, Jenner, and Sea Ranch are typically cool and foggy.
In the southeastern portion of the county, pleasantly warm daytime temperatures and comfortable nights make the Sonoma Valley towns that are strung along the Sonoma Highway from the outskirts of Santa Rosa to the city of Sonoma popular with residents, visitors, and the vintners who operate the scores of wineries and vineyards that define the area.
Only 30 miles north of San Francisco, Sonoma County is favored with an enviable quality of life. In addition to Sonoma’s reputation as a world class wine producing region, Sonoma’s pleasant climate sets the scene for all types of outdoor activity, including golf, biking, hiking, kayaking, and even hot air ballooning. Every town seems to have a farmer’s market, and the county has a very full events calendar that includes community festivals, wine seminars, and a plethora of food and wine tasting/pairing affairs.
