Sometimes referred to as the gateway to Western Sonoma CountySebastopol is a small semi-rural community with a bohemian vibe.  Located at the intersection of the Bodega and Gravenstein Highways, between Santa Rosa and Bodega Bay, Sebastopol was once a farming town known as the Gravenstein apple capital of the world.  Today, although many of the apple orchards have given way to vineyards, and stylish wine tasting rooms and trendy restaurants have opened their doors, Sebastopol still celebrates its agrarian heritage.

The heart of Sebastopol is the downtown area where the Town Plaza hosts local events; and artsy shops, restaurants, and wineries line the streets.  Surrounding the downtown area are small shopping centers, professional buildings, and schools - which offer residents all the amenities necessary for everyday life.  For entertainment, Sebastopol residents needn't stray far from home.  Annual events that include the Apple Blossom Festival and Parade, the Gravenstein Apple Fair, jazz concerts on the Town Plaza, and wine-tasting fetes keep the calendar full.  Sebastopol also has an active arts community with a community cultural center, a center for the arts, and ballet school.

Homes in Sebastopol range from 100-year-old Victorians, Craftsman style bungalows, and farmhouses to condominiums and modern single-family homes in contemporary subdivisions.  In the outlying areas, near Freestone and Occidental, homes are in a more rural setting and many come with acreage and are surrounded by redwood forests, vineyards, or orchards.

Sebastopol Homes for Sale

Located about 52 miles north of San Francisco in Sonoma County is the tiny community of Sebastopol, population 7,379. Known most for its diversity and small town charm, Sebastopol’s location at the crossroads of Highway 12 and Highway 116 also puts residents and home owners just a few short minutes from Santa Rosa, which of course acts as the county seat, and also Sonoma County’s largest city. Dating all the way back to the 1880s, Sebastopol has a very rich agricultural history, but it’s also a place where fine art, fine dining, sustainable living, and outdoor recreational are all widely embraced. Downtown Sebastopol is filled with cozy cafes, art galleries, antique shops, boutique shops, and a thriving restaurant scene, providing locals with plenty of places to eat, drink, and shop. 

Sebastopol Real Estate 

Many homes for sale in Sebastopol are quaint and charming, much like Sebastopol’s overall vibe and ambiance. Small, two-bedroom cottage-style homes in Sebastopol typically start somewhere in the mid-$500,000, which is a pretty good entry-level price point for just about anywhere in the Bay Area. And despite not really being known for its luxury real estate offerings, prospective home buyers might see a few homes in the $2 to $3+ million price range, however, most full-size, three- to four-bedroom houses on the market will fall somewhere in between $1 and $1.7 million.
