San Ramon Real Estate Market
The aptly-named City of San Ramon sits out 34 miles east of San Francisco in the San Ramon Valley and is widely praised for its stunning views of Mount Diablo from just about any part of town. The Las Trampas Regional Wilderness and the Bishop Ranch Regional Preserve also partially border the city of San Ramon, only adding to its already gorgeous natural setting, and with so much of the surrounding area also occupied by undeveloped grasslands and sprawling oak tree orchards, it's hard not to be taken by San Ramon's undeniable beauty. But acting as the 4th largest city in Contra Costa County and now having a population of well over 76,000 residents, there's certainly much more to the San Ramon community than just lots of open park space and a spectacular mountainous landscape. Several major corporations are also headquartered in San Ramon, including Chevron and 24-Hour Fitness, while the West Coast headquarters of AT&T also calls San Ramon home.
In many ways, San Ramon is one of the most desirable places to live in all of Contra Costa County, and its home prices often reflect that. Custom-built homes with a Mediterranean architectural style are relatively common, and pretty impressive in just about every instance as well. Several golf courses, countless public parks, and miles and miles of recreational trails make this a fabulous place to live for anyone who loves the outdoors, and its location makes a commute to just about anywhere in the East Bay fairly quick, and easy too. Older, more established neighborhoods offer reasonably-priced homes and condos, but look for the bulk of homes for sale in San Ramon to fall somewhere between $1 and $1.5 million.
Real estate in San Ramon CA does not always come cheaply; San Ramon boasts some of the more expensive real estate in the Bay Area with high-end luxury properties in Norris Canyon, The Oaks, The Hills, and Old Ranch Estates. More affordable single-family homes, condominiums, and townhomes can be found in several older neighborhoods in central San Ramon. Homes in San Ramon come in a variety of styles and price points, designed to please the contemporary suburbanite.
San Ramon Community Amenities
As an outdoor-oriented community with several golf courses, numerous parks and open spaces, miles of trails, and public sports fields, San Ramon is an affluent, self-sufficient city with highly respected schools and a strong economic base. The backbone of San Ramon's economy is Bishop Ranch, a premier office/business park that houses many nationally and internationally recognized corporations.
Like the neighboring Tri-Valley communities of Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, and Danville, San Ramon was once a ranching and agricultural area that gave way to suburban development in the 1960's and '70s. San Ramon's ideal location, temperate Mediterranean climate, and beautiful surroundings have helped it grow from its mid-century beginnings as a quiet bedroom community to the highly-desirable residential area it is today.
