In 1873, when the Aetna Springs Resort opened its doors, Pope Valley became a favorite summertime destination for wealthy visitors from San Francisco who came to hike, swim, golf, and enjoy the natural hot springs.  In the 1920s, Aetna Springs Resort became a favored hangout for the Hollywood set.  Today, Pope Valley residents and visitors can still enjoy a round of golf at Aetna Springs' small, 9-hole golf course.  Pope Valley is also home to several small wineries, including Pope Valley Winery, Aetna Springs Cellars, and James Creek Vineyards.

Pope Valley is a small and secluded community that sits on Napa County’s northern end near Walter Springs, Aetna Springs, and Angwin. Situated in a small valley in the Mayacamas Mountains, rolling hills and winding roadways help fill out the countryside setting of Pope Valley, with a few farmhouses and ranches also scattered in between.
