Inverness Homes & Real Estate

Browse today's new Inverness homes for sale plus more properties in Marin County below! Inverness, CA is a uniquely located, unincorporated community that's pushed right up against Point Reyes National Seashore, which of course is the sprawling, 71,000 acre park along Drakes Bay that features some of the region's most spectacular hiking trails, public beaches, and panoramic views of the water. For the true outdoor enthusiast who loves getting outside and staying active, there's arguably no better place to live in Marin County than the small and almost isolated community of Inverness, which says a lot given Marin County's gorgeous natural landscape that encompasses such a broad area. Immediately north of Inverness is another unincorporated community in Seahaven, while a short drive south along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard will bring you to Point Reyes Station — another small Marin County town with a similar vibe and laid-back lifestyle in general. As buyers might expect, community amenities in Inverness are limited, although there is a local elementary school located here, as well as several quaint bed and breakfast inns and cottages, a small market, a post office, and even a couple good restaurants too. Inverness Real Estate Market

Inverness has a population of just over 1,300 residents, so the real estate market is actually a bit more robust than buyers might expect from an unassuming, unincorporated community on the outskirts of Marin County. Single family homes of course dominate the market here, and some farmhouses and cabins for sale in Inverness also features some pretty awesome views and outlooks of Tomales Bay, which tend to be some of the more sought-after properties buyers will see listed on the market. Home listing prices in Inverness usually depend on views, location, and how much property a home also includes, but potential home buyers can reasonably expect most Inverness homes for sale to list for somewhere between $800,000 and $1.5 million, although larger houses with top-notch views and plenty of extra acreage have certainly been known to exceed $2 or $3 million as well.

Despite its reputation (rightfully so) as a vacation spot, Inverness has some well-established neighborhoods tucked into the surrounding hillsides. Some are summer vacation homes that remain with the original families, but Inverness is gaining a year round population. With sandy beaches, ridge top views, and waterfront acreage Inverness is a popular spot for visitors and residents alike. Whether high on a ridge or down by the bay, homes in the Inverness area are unique and not always easy to come by, but the wonderful location makes it well worth the effort. Because so many of the properties pass from one generation to the next, real estate has not always been easily obtainable in Inverness. More properties are, however, becoming available and range from multimillion-dollar mansions to less expensive, unassuming cottages.

Inverness Community Amenities

If locals take Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Highway 101 and head west, eventually they will end up in the small coastal town of Inverness. Originally a summer town that attracted the Bay Area's well off set, Inverness is the last community before entering the Point Reyes National Seashore.

With the Point Reyes National Seashore and Tomales Bay in its backyard, Inverness is a perfect jumping off place for many recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking. The less athletically inclined might enjoy bird watching, visiting the Point Reyes lighthouse, or just sitting on the bluffs watching the surf or migrating whales.
