Guerneville Real Estate

Guerneville is a small community on the Russian River, about 20 miles northwest of Santa Rosa, in Sonoma County.  Named after the Swiss immigrant George Guerne, who owned the town's sawmill in the late 1800s, Guerneville began as a logging town.  When the logging boom declined, well-to-do vacationers from San Francisco discovered Guerneville, and the area prospered as a popular tourist resort.  During the 1960s, hard times fell on Guerneville and it became a haven for the disenfranchised.  Today, Guerneville has reinvented itself, and it is once again a popular holiday destination with small town charm and hospitality.

A long-time favorite of the LGBT community, Guerneville is a liberal minded community that welcomes visitors and residents of all ages and orientation.  Only a short distance from the Sonoma Coast, several state recreational areas, a golf course, and the Russian River Valley wineries, Guerneville is a hub of activity - especially during the warm summer months.  Guerneville is also close to Highway 101 and some of the larger Sonoma County cities and towns, including Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, and Windsor, which puts all the necessary amenities, conveniences, and services close at hand.

Guerneville straddles the Russian River and extends up into the surrounding hills offering both forested properties and homes fronting the river.  Homes in Guerneville represent just about everything there is to be had in rural residential real estate, fromstylish contemporary homes and prefabs, to snug bungalows built in the early 1900s.  There are also a few multi-family homes, primarily duplexes, in Guerneville.

Some of Guerneville’s most expensive properties are homes with lots of land or that already include an established vineyard, which have been known to creep up into the $3+ million range and above.
