Eureka Valley Real Estate
Eureka Valley / Dolores Heights is a vibrant, diverse neighborhood in the heart of San Francisco. Located just east of Twin Peaks and north of Noe Valley, Eureka Valley / Dolores Heights dates back to the 1880s and was once a quiet, working class community. Today things have changed, and Eureka Valley is probably best known for The Castro, which extends down the length of Castro Street and is ground zero for San Francisco's gay community.
Eureka Valley / Dolores Heights is a fully self-sufficient neighborhood, full of markets, interesting shops, clubs, eateries, and nightlife. In the hilly southeastern section (Dolores Heights), dead end cul-de-sacs connect with main thoroughfares via steep staircases - offering pedestrian shortcuts (combined with the opportunity for a great workout). At the western end, the Eureka Valley portion of the neighborhood is a popular tourist destination with The Castro being a primary draw. The San Francisco MUNI Metro system and two BART stations in the nearby Mission District provide quick, convenient public transportation for the neighborhood.
Aside from the obvious flamboyant personality of The Castro, Eureka Valley / Dolores Heights is well known for its charming Victorian style homes, and the community is full of beautifully restored single-family homes as well as a large selection of condominiums, townhomes, and apartment buildings. Many hillside homes boast terrific views of the surrounding city.
