As the name implies, the Central District is right in the geographic center of San Francisco. It is an area of extremes, full of character and vitality, popular with tourists and residents alike. Sheltered from the famous San Francisco fog, the Central District is one of San Francisco's sunnier regions. Buena Vista Park, which is the oldest public park in San Francisco, is located in the Central District, as are Twin Peaks, Mission Dolores Park, and Mission Dolores itself. A BART station in Glen Park puts the district only a short 10-minute ride from downtown San Francisco, making it easily accessible to both commuters and visitors.
The Central District is an intriguing mix of commercial and residential properties. Single-family homes, flats, apartments, lofts, and condos can be found throughout the district. The Noe Valley is a coveted residential area with diverse architecture, locally-owned shops, and a neighborhood feel. The Victorians in the hillside community of Ashbury Heights reflect a gentrified, upgraded Haight, while the wood-shingled homes in nearby Parnassus Heights provide an atmosphere reminiscent of Berkeley.
Real estate in the Central District is nothing if not comprehensive. From the posh slopes of Clarendon Heights and Twin Peaks to the rapidly changing face of the Duboce Triangle, baroque mansions, distinguished Victorians, and modern contemporary homes create an intriguing mix of architecture and style that can only be found in San Francisco.
