Cazadero Real Estate

Locals consider Cazadero to be a little bit of paradise - and most visitors would tend to agree.  Settled in the coastal mountains of western Sonoma County, just north of the Russian River, Cazadero is but a few miles from Guerneville, and only 30 miles from Santa Rosa; but, in actuality, it feels secluded and well off the beaten path.

Surrounded by redwood forests, Cazadero experiences hearty winter rains, but in the summertime wildflowers bloom and nearby Austin Creek offers up swimming holes and gravel beaches. Kayaking and bicycling are popular local activities, while hikers and Scuba divers enjoy the trails, picnicking facilities, and an underwater park at nearby Salt Point State Park along Sonoma's rugged coastline.  Cazadero has also distinguished itself as a wine-growing region and is particularly respected for the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel produced by small local vineyards and wineries.

The heart of the small town of Cazadero is the Cazadero General Store, a post office, and the volunteer fire department.  Most of the homes in Cazadero are in the countryside surrounding the town and range from simple cabins and cottages to custom designed properties that include the Breuer/Lundberg cabin, designed by Modernist owner/architect Olle Lundberg and featured in the New York Times and Dwell Magazine.

Cazadero Homes for Sale

Cazadero is a tiny unincorporated community that sits deep in the hills and redwood forests that dominate much of the landscape throughout much of Sonoma County. Also situated along the calm flowing waters of Austin Creek, the atmosphere around Cazadero is best described as tranquil and scenic, which largely explains why houses for sale here are so highly sought after by area home buyers looking for a new place to live. Like a number of communities in the region, Cazadero initially got its start thanks to the thriving lumber industry that swept much of Northern California back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Since then, Cazadero has maintained much of its original charm and character, and even today, a short drive through what’s essentially considered its downtown almost feels like you’ve traveled back in time to an old western town that still embraces a much slower way-of-life. Bicycling is also a large part of the local culture here in Cazadero, and almost every major bike tour that travels through Sonoma County eventually makes its way through town, which includes both the Gran Fondo and the Tour of California.

Cazadero Real Estate

The Cazadero real estate market features a wide-range of highly desirable homes that mostly all sit hillside and are surrounded by the dense forested landscape that largely defines this part of the country. Original cabins, traditional farmhouses, and countless uniquely designed single-family dwellings make the Cazadero real estate market more robust than you might originally assume, which is also why it’s so highly regarded as a great place to begin a Sonoma County home search. Large lots and home sites are also commonplace on the Cazadero housing market, also making it a great location for anyone who is considering building their dream home from the ground up. In general, entry level houses for sale in Cazadero usually start somewhere in the low to mid $400,000s, while larger dwellings with lots of living space or perhaps lots of additional acreage will regularly jump up into the high $700,000s, or even slightly higher.
