Castro Valley Real Estate Market

Residential development in the Castro Valley housing market has been widespread in recent years, making it a hotbed for anybody looking for the perfect suburban hideaway. Home styles in Castro Valley are broad, ranging from vintage Craftsman and bungalow-style homes to traditional new construction that features ample living space and modern/functional layouts. And with easy access to several major highways that run all through the East Bay region, most homes for sale in Castro Valley can be considered a commuter’s dream location.

Mid-century modern enthusiasts will be interested to know that Castro Valley, CA is one of the four East Bay cities with houses built by Joseph Eichler. Tucked away in the hills of northeast Castro Valley is Greenridge, a neighborhood of about 200 Eichler homes. East Bay Eichler developments can also be found in the Oakland Hills, Walnut Creek, and Concord. Real estate in Castro Valley California offers a little bit of everything from the Greenridge Eichler neighborhood, to modest mid-century starter houses in the Baywood area, to large modern and custom homes in the hills. Prices range from affordable to costly; in 2009, Forbes ranked the Castro Valley zip code of 94552 as one of the 500 most expensive in the United States.

Castro Valley Community Amenities

Lake Chabot Regional Park and Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area are both in Castro Valley, providing residents and home owners with plenty of outdoor amenities to enjoy. Outside of that, buyers touring the area will find that most of the Castro Valley area consists of residential development outside of a handful of local schools and the Sutter Health Eden Medical Center, which sits just north of Interstate 580.

Although Castro Valley is the fifth most populous unincorporated city in California, it somehow manages to maintain a small town feel and a rural flavor, particularly in the eastern hills. Just north of Hayward, and ten miles west of Pleasanton, Castro Valley is well situated for commuting to all Bay Area communities. It is conveniently located on I-580 and I-238, and is served by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) with a direct route eastward to Pleasanton and Dublin, and westward into San Francisco.
