Camp Meeker Real Estate

Set on the Bohemian Highway between the Sonoma County towns of Occidental and Monte RioCamp Meeker is a laid-back village surrounded by rolling hills and coastal redwood forests.  In its heyday during the late 1800s, Camp Meeker was a booming logging town that supplied lumber to nearby San Francisco, as well as a popular vacation destination for city folks looking for a bucolic summer get-away.  Nowadays Camp Meeker is still a favorite retreat for vacationers as well as permanent residents who enjoy the solace of a rural lifestyle combined with the ease of being only minutes away from the convenience and action offered in nearby Occidental and Santa Rosa.

Camp Meeker Homes for Sale

Neatly situated over on Sonoma County’s east side, Camp Meeker lies just north of Occidental and only about 5 miles south of Monte Rio. An unincorporated community that’s mostly all residential, recent population stats have only about 425 people calling the Camp Meeker area home, limiting what you might find available on the local housing market. Overall, the Camp Meeker atmosphere is heavily wooded and originally got its start when lumber baron Melvin Cyrus Meeker developed several mills in the area that served as central logging posts for San Francisco and much of the surrounding region for years. The winding roadways all throughout Camp Meeker are also well-known for being narrow, hilly, and rather scenic in their own way, although they’re also not considered the safest thoroughfares you’ll find in these parts either. For potential home buyers who may need to relay on public transportation, you’ll be pleased to know that the 20X bus to Santa Rosa and the 28 bus to Guerneville/Occidential run directly through Camp Meeker, which adds a little extra convenience to calling this particular part of Sonoma County home as well.

Camp Meeker Real Estate

According to Wikipedia, Camp Meeker only has about 350 homes within its boundaries, which means the selection of options and opportunities to buy here is usually quite scarce. But if you are lucky enough to find something available on the open market, Camp Meeker homes for sale are usually relatively affordable in relation to Northern California home prices overall, as many very desirable entry level houses in the area typically start for under $400,000, which should be considered a great deal. Some homes and farmhouses also include lots of additional acreage as well, but look for these and other high-end listings to jump up into the $1 to $3 million range, depending on the size of the home itself, and also its lot size.
