Like its Sonoma County neighbors to the south, Boyes Hot Springs and Agua Caliente, Calistoga had its beginnings as a spa resort. Its natural volcanic hot springs attracted wealthy 19th century San Franciscans to the area to enjoy the restorative powers of the thermal underground mineral waters.  Today visitors still come from all over the world to enjoy the waters, as well as the area's wineries, fine dining, and scenic beauty.  Throughout the year visitors and residents can enjoy local festivals from celebrations of wine and food to music in the park.  Calistoga even has its own 9-hole golf course, perfect for a quick late afternoon round.

Homes in Calistoga range from original Queen Anne cottages and unassuming single story bungalows in the downtown area to comfortable single-family homes in suburban style neighborhoods and gated communities on the edge of town.  Just outside the Calistoga city limits are vineyard estates and sophisticated hillside homes, many designed by prominent Bay Area architects, which offer grand views of the surrounding hills and the Napa Valley.
