Wi-Drive: A New, Eco-Friendly Commuting Option in Marin County CA

Workday commuting from Marin County to San Francisco is a trip undertaken by tens of thousands of people each day.   Logistically speaking, the trip is a fairly easy one to make (by car, boat, bus, or even by bicycle across the Golden Gate Bridge) however eco-conscious consumers in Marin County now have a new option worthy of consideration.

A San Francisco-based company called Bauer's Intelligent Transportation is now offering Marin to San Francisco commuters the opportunity to commute in high-style (and also in a more eco-friendly manner) on one of their unique "Wi-Drive!" buses.

What is a Wi-Drive Bus?

The Wi-Drive is a 52-seat, luxury commuter bus that runs on biodiesel fuel.   The amenities found on the Wi-Drive commuter bus are impressive and include:

  • Free, high-speed wireless internet (WiFi) access,
  • Full meal service (meals can be pre-ordered online),
  • Large, supple leather seats with laptop computer trays,
  • Plenty of table space and power outlets for working on the go

These eco-friendly commuter buses offer high-style and conveniences typically reserved for the home or home office.   The cost for the round-trip commute between Marin County and San Francisco is currently priced at $16.40, however a discounted roundtrip fare of $14.76 can be obtained if a month worth of rides are purchased in advance.

Sounds like a great idea. The cost is not much more than some toll fares in other cities and much more convenient. It will be interesting to see how well it works.
