Warm, Rich Marsala - Pantone's Color of the Year for 2015
Â
In December, Pantone, an acknowledged global authority on color, announced 18-1438 Marsala as the 2015 Color of the Year. This full-bodied earth tone based on a combination of deep, rich red hues and warm browns, will be highlighted in everything from home interiors and accent pieces to fashion,  industrial and graphic design.Â
In terms of home design and decorating, we'll see how shades of this welcoming, warm-bodied color can add elegance to any room in the home. According to Pantone, "Marsala's plush characteristics are enhanced when the color is applied to textured surfaces, making it an ideal choice for rugs and upholstered living room furniture." It can also work well for kitchens and dining rooms where the color can be seen in all types of luxuriant tabletop linens, prints for drapes, cushions and other distinctive home accessories. Marsala can provide a unifying element that will add warmth to your interior pallet throughout the home if it's a color that speaks to you.
Named for the fortified wine, Marsala is a varietal that makes an appealing combination with most neutrals and colors like golden yellow or amber. You can also use Marsala to create added drama with contrasting, vibrant hues, like deep turquoise or versatile teal. However you may decide to use this rich earthy color, it can help create a contemporary design statement that helps make your home a real stand out.
