Call 511 SF Bay "Freeway Assist"

Some very good FYI if you ever have the misfortune of having your car breakdown on the freeway. Last week my car stalled on highway 101. It was right in the thick of the morning commute with very heavy traffic. Fortunately, I was able to coast off of the road and onto the side of the highway. I have to admit it was a very stressful situation and thinking clearly about what I should do next was not very clear. After a few minutes, I decided getting out of the car was not the right move. I was in an area that did not have a safe place to wait and trying to assess any mechanical issue/resolution was not part of my repertoire :(.

I contacted my insurance company Geico, who immediately contacted a towing company. Geico is awesome! They setup a tow truck and gave me an eta of 90 minutes. Within 10 minutes the Highway Patrol showed up, they contacted 511 "Freeway Assist" to assess my situation and provide assistance.

If you know about this service great. If you are hearing about it for the first time, then hopefully you will not have to use it. If you do have the misfortune, dialing 511, can get you out of a stressful situation very quickly. They provide non-emergency assistance like changing a flat tire, jumping a battery, gas, or a tow off of the highway for FREE.

I hope this helps! Great FYI for the whole family!
