Although the city of Belvedere is a tiny community that only encompasses about a half square mile, it’s also one of the most scenic places to call home in the entire Bay Area. Belvedere is completely surrounded by water on three sides, and its lush, hilly terrain helps provide some of the most incredible views you’ll find anywhere of the Golden Gate Bride, Mt. Tamalpais, and of course the spectacular San Francisco skyline. Today, only around 2,100 people live in Belvedere, allowing for the atmosphere and general vibe of the city to be relatively calm and laid back, despite only being about a 45 minute drive to the heart of San Francisco. Belvedere is primarily divided into three distinct neighborhoods: Belvedere Island, Belvedere Lagoon, and Corinthian Island. Regardless of which part of town a buyer is considering for a new home, many Belvedere homes for sale are specifically noted for their unparalleled views of the San Francisco Bay and Angel Island. And this certainly contributes to property values here seemingly always remaining high, even in a down market. Victorian style architecture is also common throughout Belvedere, which is also why it's widely considered a top destination for suburban home buyers who love and appreciate vintage houses.
Many residents of Belvedere work out of their homes as telecommuters, while others work in the city, making the 20-30 minute drive to downtown San Francisco or catching the ferry in nearby Tiburon. When they aren't working, residents have an abundance of recreational opportunities at their doorsteps. Many homes are built on the water and have private docks allowing access to the waters surrounding Belvedere. The San Francisco Yacht Club is based in Belvedere and the Corinthian Yacht Club is in nearby Tiburon. In addition, the Belvedere Sailing Society is a sailing and social club open to residents.
With Belvedere being so small, both in total area and population, community amenities and attractions here remain somewhat limited. For boating and water sports enthusiasts, the San Francisco Yacht Club and the Corinthian Yacht Club are both situated on Belvedere's waterfront, and there's also a small park up on the north side of town that acts as a nice summertime gathering spot or a great place to take the kids or your dog for some afternoon play time. Downtown Tiburon is also just a short drive away from most homes in Belvedere, which features a small collection of restaurants, cafe, and various small service businesses that are nice to have around as well.
There are three very elite neighborhoods in Belvedere; Belvedere Island, Belvedere Lagoon, and Corinthian Island. Some of the homes built in the Belvedere Lagoon area are mid-century modern homes, although many architectural styles are represented. With beautiful, hilly, lush terrain and sensational views in all directions, the homes in Belvedere are truly one of a kind.
While there are no schools within the Belvedere boundaries specifically, elementary school students living in town will attend schools in the Reed Union School District, and high school students in Belvedere usually attend Redwood High School in nearby Larkspur.
Belvedere means beautiful views and perhaps a place has never been more aptly named. One of the most upscale, exclusive communities in Marin, if not all of California, Belvedere is surrounded on 3 sides by the waters of the San Francisco Bay and provides spectacular views of San Francisco, Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, and Mount Tamalpais. Many of the residences in Belvedere were designed by famous architects or are considered to be historically significant. No matter which direction you turn, the vista is stunning.
