After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Journalism & Communications from the University of Florida I moved to Europe and studied graphic design at Central St. Martin’s College in London. I then began a career working for advertising and branding agencies, magazines, photographers and architecture firms. After several years in the graphic design business and collaborating with many different design teams on myriads of projects, I found myself drawn more and more toward real estate from these same principles of beauty, clean lines, and functionality of space. After spending a few summers with relatives in Sweden, I realized that interior design and architecture combined all my lifelong interests together. With the growing movement in ecological sustainability and practical simplicity gaining momentum I became increasingly interested in places that embraced these ideals. The thoughtful blending of physical setting, purposeful design and natural materials seemed to me to make healthier spaces for people to live in. I am captivated by beautiful spaces, natural light and small details. I think my creative edge and years of visual arts experience give me a unique sensibility when it comes to real estate and to understanding why finding the right house for each client is so important to their real and sustained happiness.
Q&A with Anastasia Hockinson, Marin County Realtor
How long have you called Marin County home?
I grew up in Marin County and I bring a wealth of local knowledge and real estate expertise to help my clients find their dream home. While I have traveled extensively around the world and cherish my memories from living in Amsterdam, London, South Africa, and the Caribbean -- Marin has always been my home. I now live in San Anselmo.
How long have you been a Realtor in Marin County and what (real estate related) accomplishments are you most proud of?
While I started my real estate career in new home sales in Napa, and then San Francisco, I have worked in Marin exclusively for the last three years, showing homes to prospective buyers. I am most proud of the connections I make with my clients. To be able to understand a client’s true wishes in a home and then to be able to find it for them is pure satisfaction. My knowledge of interior design, renovation and landscape architecture can help to guide my client’s vision for their dream home and transform possibility into reality.
Sell us. Why Marin County?
Marin is a gateway to paradise. There is paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing in Richardson Bay. There are all the hidden jewels along the Pacific Coast such as Tennessee Valley where you can hike to a small cove with a black sand beach, picnic on the cliffs overlooking Muir Beach or walk around Abbotts Lagoon out to the sand dunes in Point Reyes. The many beautiful hikes to natural waterfalls, around lakes and along winding creeks – are a nature lovers dream.
Give it up. Where is your favorite secret (or not so secret) destination in Marin County?
I love to cook and shop locally at the organic farmers markets. There are many restaurants in Marin that are supporting all the local fisherman and farmers. I can be found at one of my favorite restaurants Fish in Sausalito, Picco in Larkspur, Village Sake in Fairfax and Saltwater in Inverness.
Complete this sentence: In my free time....
I can be found playing tennis, bicycling around San Anselmo and dancing to live music. Driving along the coast of Tomales Bay to have Kumamoto oysters at Hog Island in Marshall or staying at my favorite eco-designer hotel H2O in Healdsburg and wine tasting at Quivira biodynamic vineyard in Alexander Valley. I have a passion for traveling to exotic destinations such as Kauai or Bequia to snorkel in the coral reefs and swim in the warm ocean waves.
